Fri Aug 9 10th Annual Ice Cream Social at Point Park - 11am at Point Park. Come enjoy your favorite ice cream in a handmade bowl at Point Park, in the center of Old Forge across from the Old Forge Hardware Store. Local potters make these one-of-a-kind ceramic bowls in the Meyda Tiffany Lighting Creative Arts Wing at View. Be sure to arrive early! There are many bowls and other ceramic pieces to choose from and plenty of ice cream and toppings at the ready. Sun Aug 11 Friends of the Old Forge Library Bash - 3–5 pm. You’ll want to attend this annual fundraising event hosted by the Friends! It is always a good time and a great way to support an organization that does so much for the library. The Friends have gathered donations from artists and craftspeople and gift certificates from local businesses. Raffle tickets may be purchased on these items up until the day of the

Mon Aug 12 Eco Gallery Talks: Understanding Ticks and Their Diseases in New York State - 6pm at VIEW. Cash bar reception begins at 6pm followed by a presentation at 7pm. In this talk Brian F. Leydet will discuss the history of tick-borne diseases in the state as well as current and future opportunities that will help us understand and prevent this growing threat to human and animal health. Thurs Aug 15 Broadway Meets Opera - 7:30pm at VIEW. $35 Reserved Seating This 9th Annual event stars Baritone David Pershall and Tenor Matthew White accompanied by Arthur McManus. The first half of the show will introduce the audience to wonderful arias from famous Operas while the second half will be hit broadway songs. Thurs Aug 22 Create a Book: Introduction to Bookmaking - 2 pm at the Old Forge Library. Workshop led by Anastasia Osolin This workshop will cover some of the basics of bookbinding, including an introduction to the structure and mechanics of a book, various types of binding, and the tools & materials involved in bookmaking. Participants will create a simple hand-sewn blank book. All material will be provided. Anastasia is a book conservator, serving the antiquarian book trade, libraries and collectors. Fri Aug 23 Meditation with Trees Workshop -10am-noon at the Old Forge Library. Led by Doug Davis, participants will learn about the wonderful healing benefits of quietly being and connecting with trees and mother earth. Doug relocated to the area from Ohio in 2017. He always knew he’d eventually live in the Adirondacks and was drawn here, in part, because of the abundance of nature (and trees)! Fri Aug 23 Hanna and the Blue Hearts - 5pm at VIEW. Fri & Sat Sept 6 & 7 Old Forge Marathon/Half-Marathon/10K/5K - As one of the western gateway communities of the Adirondack Park, Old Forge is the perfect destination venue for an Adirondack trail running event. The full marathon, half marathon, 10K and 5K all take place on established bike trails (snowmobile in the winter) that run between the northeast portion of Old Forge, just north of Water Safari, and work their way towards Eagle Bay. The trail course is mostly gravel and dirt roads. A true Adirondack experience. Fall foliage is estimated to be about 15%-25% peak. New in 2019, a 10K race event has been added on Friday, the evening before the big event. Do the 10K as a solo event or BE THE LOON- run the 10K Friday and then the half or full marathon on Saturday for the 2-Day Loon Challenge for a great sense of accomplishment and of course some extra LOONY SWAG! Fri - Sun Sept 6 - 8 90-Miler Canoe Race - This three-day, 90-mile flat water race follows the original highways of the Adirondacks from Old Forge to Saranac Lake. The course offers a mix of lake and river flat water paddling with several carries. Participants receive a T-shirt, mileage pins, awards, camping, snacks, boat shuttles and a post race meal. Entry forms for this race go out via U.S. Mail in June ( email or call before June 1 to be added to the mailing list ). The 90 - Miler is limited to 275 boats. Entry deadline is July 25. Entry fee is $150 per paddler ($125 for AWA members.) call 518-891-2744.
